Today we are talking about yesterday’s news.
There is much talk about the young 22 year old boy that was killed by his stepfather. This boy worked at Ginghamsburg United Methodist Church. If the blog I read by pastor Mike Slaughter was understood correctly newspeople were asking how the stepfather could be a member of the church one day and a murderer the next day. I probably didn’t word that exactly the way it was originally written. My point is there are many questions going through people’s minds about this tragedy.
I have written much about these wolves in sheep clothing lately. Look back at the June writings and you may see something that talks about how these people that do wrong may be sitting next to you at church. In this case the man that murdered his stepson seems to be like a selfish spirited coward. He had his own motives for venting his anger in such a way that he took a young man’s life. He showed selfishness when he didn’t control himself. He also showed that he is cowardly when he ran away from the crime. He committed the crime but he doesn’t want to pay the time.
I know prisons are not pleasant places. I wouldn’t want to be in one for even a few minutes from what I am told about them. I have even been told there are crimes committed within the walls of the prisons. No one should want to go there. Prisons are needed though. There are criminals out there that will continue doing bad things if they are not stopped. We still live on this earth.
The cowardly man that shot and killed his stepson may even cry over the terrible thing he has done. He may even weep real tears. Does that mean he shouldn’t go to prison?
I’ve read that because Brandon Haskins was a Christian person his family is prepared to forgive the murderer because Brandon would want them to forgive him. I agree with the forgiveness going on. I do think it makes sense that the man that murdered Brandon gets evaluated for this crime committed. Surely he needs to be captured, tried, and convicted. His deed was witnessed by his own 7 year old son and his wife. They saw what he did and he isn’t going to easily be able to get out of this. So many lives are affected by what this man did.
Do you think the Lord cares that a life was taken? I believe God cares about all the people that have been murdered. He cares when he heard the cries of Brandon’s Mother when she knew her son was dead. He cares about the lonely prostitute that is murdered on the streets, too. It is written that God is mindful of the sparrow that falls to the ground. You can read about the sparrow in Matthew 10 or Luke 12.
Today there is much sorrow over the life of a young boy that shouldn’t have died the way he did. Murder is a callous hearted action committed by a man. This was not an act of war. This was one selfish hearted individual taking a gun and carelessly taking the life of another person. We need to pray the evil hearted murderer will be captured or give himself up. We also need to pray that he will genuinely repent over his wrongdoing. His relationship with God is the serious issue at hand now. If everyone else forgives him it means nothing if he doesn’t get his heart cleansed by God.
Revelation 21:7-9 (King James Version)
”7He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son. 8But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. 9And there came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come hither, I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb’s wife.”
WASHINGTON— President Barack Obama said Sunday it was time for the Senate to "take the baton" on health care reform after the House passed its plan for overhauling the nation's health care system. "For years we've been told that this couldn't be done," Obama said in a brief statement from the Rose Garden. "But last night the House proved different." The Democratic-controlled House on Saturday narrowly passed the far-reaching legislation, 220-215, but the road ahead in the Senate promises to be rocky. The president said the House vote took courage for many lawmakers because of the heated and often misleading rhetoric that accompanied debate over how the change the system. "Now it falls on the United States Senate to take the baton and bring this effort to the finish line on behalf of the American people, and I'm absolutely confident that they will," Obama said. "I'm equally convinced that on the day that we gather here at the White House and I sign comprehensive health insurance reform legislation into law, they'll be able to join their House colleagues and say this was their finest moment in public service." Republican lawmakers have vowed to do all they can to stop the Democratic plan, which they contend will cost jobs, raise insurance rates and lead to huge tax increases. The Senate has yet to schedule debate on its version of health care reform. "The House bill is dead on arrival in the Senate," Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., said Sunday. "It was a bill written by liberals for liberals." A Democratic colleague, Sen. Jack Reed of Rhode Island, predicted an overhaul would pass the Senate because "it's essential" to the country's economic success and people's quality of life. "It will take time," he added. House Republicans were nearly unanimous in opposing the plan that would expand coverage to tens of millions of Americans and place tough new restrictions on the insurance industry. A triumphant House Speaker Nancy Pelosi compared the legislation to the passage of Social Security in 1935 and Medicare 30 years later. Republicans detailed their objections across hours of debate on the 1,990-page, $1.2 trillion legislation. "We are going to have a complete government takeover of our health care system faster than you can say, `this is making me sick,'" said Rep. Candice Miller, R-Mich. In the run-up to a final vote, conservatives from the two political parties joined forces to impose tough new restrictions on abortion coverage in insurance policies to be sold to many individuals and small groups. The legislation would require most Americans to carry insurance and provide federal subsidies to those who otherwise could not afford it. Large companies would have to offer coverage to their employees. Both consumers and companies would be slapped with penalties if they defied the government's mandates. Insurance industry practices such as denying coverage because of medical conditions would be banned, and insurers would no longer be able to charge higher premiums on the basis of gender or medical history. The industry would also lose its exemption from federal antitrust restrictions on price fixing and market allocation. At its core, the measure would create a federally regulated marketplace where consumers could shop for coverage. In the bill's most controversial provision, the government would sell insurance, although the Congressional Budget Office forecasts that premiums for it would be more expensive than for policies sold by private companies. Graham said he thinks the government option "will destroy private health care. Nobody in this country in the insurance business can compete with a government-sponsored plan, where the government writes the benefits and politicians will never raise the premiums." Sen. Joe Lieberman, an independent from Connecticut, said that "if the public option plan is in there, as a matter of conscience, I will not allow this bill to come to a final vote because I believe the debt can break America and send us into a recession that's worse than the one we're fighting our way out of today." The House bill drew the votes of 219 Democrats and Rep. Joseph Cao, a first-term Republican who holds an overwhelmingly Democratic seat in New Orleans. Opposed were 176 Republicans and 39 Democrats. From the Senate, Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada issued a statement saying, "We realize the strong will for reform that exists, and we are energized that we stand closer than ever to reforming our broken health insurance system." To pay for the expansion of coverage, the bill cuts Medicare's projected spending by more than $400 billion over a decade. It also imposes a tax surcharge of 5.4 percent on income over $500,000 in the case of individuals and $1 million for families. Graham and Reed were on CBS' "Face the Nation." Lieberman appeared on "Fox News Sunday." this message is on the link /news/topic/article/rr/8459870/9387222/Obama says its now Senat es_turn_on_health_care/1
I was hearing and reading about the way that it is possible we will see 700 or more post offices closing.
A friend of mine commented on the fact that her local post office is on the list to close.
Here are the thoughts I shared with her after she sent her report this way:
The day is beautiful!
We are blessed with sunshine and peace this day.
I HAVE BEEN IN PRAYER ABOUT THE UPCOMING ELECTIONS. WHO HASN’T BEEN?
I JUST WANT TO SAY THAT NO MATTER WHO WINS BECOMING THE NEXT PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA OUR GOD REIGNS.
JESUS CHRIST IS STILL LORD OF MY LIFE. WE NEED GOD NO MATTER WHO BECOMES THE NEXT PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES IS NOT MY SAVIOR. NO PRESIDENT CAN TAKE THE PLACE OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST. JESUS DIED ON THE CROSS FOR OUR SINS. MAYBE IF THE PEOPLE OF GOD FOCUS ON THOSE FACTS IT WILL HELP THEM KEEP THEIR PEACE DURING THESE TRYING TIMES.
