Jesus Was Bruised For Us

Sunday, February 7th, 2010

Luke 4:18, The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

Isaiah 42:3, A bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench: he shall bring forth judgment unto truth.

Matthew 12:20, A bruised reed shall he not break, and smoking flax shall he not quench, till he send forth judgment unto victory.

Isaiah 53:5, But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

Even children quickly learn what it means to be bruised.  If we take a fall or get bumped we can see the way a the body reacts to the bruise.  The pain that comes from a bruise lasts for a while.  The spot(s) can remain sore and discolored until it is all healed.

Jesus was beaten before they nailed Him to the cross.  He was probably very sore and worn out when He was forced to carry the cross they nailed Him to.

It is fair to say that Jesus was crushed, discouraged, and oppressed by those that tormented Him.  He allowed all of this to happen because of our wicked ways.

I’ve had a bruised body, a bruised ego, and my emotions have been trampled on and bruised.  I’ve known what it is to be crushed, discouraged, and oppressed.  You have probably undergone circumstances in your life where you’ve known these kind of sorrows, too.

God provided a way for us to be healed of all the bruises in our lives.  Jesus really did take that chastisement for us.  He was punished for our sins even before He died on the cross.  He took our infirmities upon Himself.

Take a look at some of the Scriptures placed at the top of this writing.  See where God tells us that HE TOOK THE BRUISES FOR US SO THAT WE CAN BE HEALED.  We can be set free from a life of sin.  Jesus made a way that we can be free from tyranny and oppression.  Jesus died that we can know what it is to know about His way, His truth, and His life.

If you ever had pain that you thought would never come to an end think of these passages.  Remember that God paved the way that you can be healed.  There is no problem too big for our Lord.  There is no sickness on this earth that God cannot heal.

These Signs Will Follow Believers

Sunday, May 10th, 2009

Mark 16 tells us the signs that will follow believers.

These signs still follow believers in the Lord Jesus Christ.

God is not dead.  The same spirit that raised Jesus from the dead is the same spirit that raises us from death to life.  We can have a victorious joy filled Christian life because Jesus died on the cross for our sins.

We can sing and shout those words, “I’m so glad Jesus set me free. I’m singing glory halleluia Jesus set me free.” and “satan had me bound but Jesus set me free. I’m singing glory halleluia Jesus set me free.”

If you are living in bondage or you know someone who is remember that the blood of Jesus washes us white as snow.  Demons have to flee and every knee will bow and every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.  There is no power anywhere that is able to separate you from the love of God.

Miracles

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008

I’ve been meditating (thinking about) MIRACLES recently.

Miracles don’t come in bottles.  Miracles are not produced by anything man can put together.  Miracles cannot be purchased either.

I stood thinking about miracles and how I would define what a real miracle is.

One way I’d define miracles is to declare that miracles are wonderful things that happen when nothing else but the divine hand of God will help in a given situation.

I remember praying for a miracle that had nothing to do with healing someone before.  It had to do with getting help with a few problems I encountered in the past.  I turned to several people for help and it appeared as though no one was able to help.  I prayed and asked my prayerful Christian friends to pray and things changed.  We prayed until we saw the changes occur.  I would say that is one kind of miracle.

There are the miracle healings that some people believe in (they’ve usually seen or had some miracle healings come their way) and some people do not believe in miracle healings.

I expect it’s easy for most Christians to identify what a miracle healing is if they’ve ever read the Bible they know it means someone gets healed of a disease.

Blind people see again or for the first time,  deaf people hear again, lame people walk, and so forth.

I believe in miracles even though I acknowledge that they do not seem to be happening around most of us every day.

I also wonder if there are assorted miracles happening around us all the time and we just don’t always recognize them when they transpire.

P.S.  This writing on miracles was written hours ago.  It has continued to be on my mind.  I made a decision this morning that I’m going to ask the Lord to help me recognize more of His true miracles & I’m asking Him to show me how to pray for them in a way that pleases Him.
