Miracles Do Happen

Friday, July 16th, 2010

I looked out at the butterfly bushes a couple of weeks ago.  Some of the branches fell during a day or two of strong winds.

I didn’t like seeing how the bush lost those branches.  A moment of despair didn’t hit me long at all.  Immediately I thought about how I knew there was a good possibility the branches could be placed in the ground and new life could come forth.

I had tried putting cuttings into the ground a year or so ago.  The branches didn’t bring forth any new life the last time I tried this.  Maybe I wasn’t patient enough or maybe the conditions weren’t right for new growth the last time. I decided to try again.

My daughter saw the branches sticking out of the ground. Those branches looked dead.  They looked as though new growth could not come forth.  Faith told me those branches could produce new life.  I asked her to leave the dead looking sticks be.

I walked out to water plants the other day.  Joy filled my heart because two of the branches have new leaves growing on them!

It’s just like the an Easter Lily I had that took it’s good old time to bring forth blooms this year.  Someone found out the Lily didn’t open up during Easter and they said, “Maybe it’ll just die.”  It did not die!  It bloomed later than expected but it bloomed.  Beautiful white fragrant blooms were seen on the Lily this year.

We’re human and sometimes we can look at a situation or a person and we can feel like giving up on them.  God gives us signs and wonders to help us know that He is able to make life spring forth when it looks like nothing but decay exists.

Repentance Is Needed

Sunday, July 11th, 2010

Today the Pastor shared words from Jesus written in Matthew 11.  I have that Chapter posted before this writing.

The pastor reminded us of the words of Jesus.

The words focused on today were from verses 20-30.  It was pointed out how Jesus talked about the cities that didn’t repent.  The ones that do not repent will find that it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of judgment, than for you.

Those words caused me to ponder on things I’ve written or thought about lately.  I was concerned about those who will not repent.  It is natural for us to care about the people who choose to follow satan rather than following the Lord.

Pastor went on to point out that Jesus thanked God for the ones that will come to the Lord like babes.  Jesus didn’t dwell on the non repentant ones for this whole conversation mentioned in Matthew 11.  Jesus went into an attitude of gratitude.  He also went on to talk about the rest for those who will take his yoke.

The rest that God offers us is real.  The people that want to walk with the Lord take up his yoke.  When the yoke of the Lord is on your neck you will find rest for your weary souls.

Restoration & Reconciliation

http://www.newhope-openbible.org/sermons.htm

Pastor Brian let me know sermons have been placed on the New Hope Open Bible website.

He talked about this being the year to set the captives free.  I listened to the first sermon hearing him talk about reconciliation.

It is vital that each person is reconciled to God.

Many of us know how sad it is to be separated from someone you love.  I feel the sorrow we know when we are separated from someone we love dearly is minor pain compared to being eternally separated from God.

Pray for others to be reconciled to God for without him they will not know the eternal peace that can only be obtained through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

The Valley

Sunday, March 7th, 2010

God is able to do anything.

We’ve heard it before and we will probably hear it again and again.  God is able to do anything.

I read from Ezekiel this morning.  Ezekiel 37 talks about a valley of dry bones.  Ezekiel was led by the Lord to see this valley of dry bones.  He was told to prophesy over the bones and then he saw a reminder of what God can do.

God can do anything.  God can even make a valley of dry bones have tendons get attached to them, flesh can come upon them, and skin can reappear.  This was all symbolic of how God planned on restoring the people of Israel to be alive again.

The life that is most important to the believer is the connection they have with God.  If a Christian isn’t alive spiritually then it’s as if they have no hope and they are as dead as the dry bones talked about in that valley of bones.

God asked the prophet if those bones could become alive.  The Priest stated that God alone knew if that could happen.

We may have times in our lives when all looks hopeless.  There are situations we may encounter when we think there is no way things will look up.   God tells us things just like He told the people of Israel.  God tells us that He can do anything. God created the whole earth and all that is in it.  God made man to begin with and He is able to revive dry old bones.  God not only told the prophet to prophesy about the bones receiving life but he let the man see those bones come to life.  Ezekiel was able to see the bones get reconnected and he was able to see God’s Spirit give the bones new breath.
The different members of the family of Israel had been divided, too.  God told through the prophet that a healing would come that would restore the tribe of Israel so Israel would again become as one. God can even repair relationships that once looked broken forever.

God can bring those who are divided into a place where they unite again.

Have you ever thought restoration looked impossible?  Have you wondered if something broken could ever be fixed?

When all looks lost remember the valley of dry bones.  Remember you have a God that can repair anything.

God wants people to live in unity.  God wants His peace, love, and life to be yours.

I almost cried when I read this passage from the Bible today.  I’ve seen so many people that are hurting because of the things they face and how impossible some of their circumstances look to them.

The tears I had were tears of joy.  I knew when I read from Ezekiel 37 I was reading about things that our God is able to do.  God can restore.  God can heal.  God can do anything.

Whatever hardship you are facing right now look up to the Lord.  Your Redeemer lives.  God is able to bring health and healing in a perfect way.

Put your trust in the Lord.  Trust God to handle things in a perfect way and in a perfect time frame.

Be encouraged!  God is able to do things exceedingly abundantly far above what you can ask or think.

Possible Help For MPD

Saturday, February 6th, 2010

A friend was telling me that a relative of hers was seeing a local therapist due to severe emotional problems.

The relative of my friend was once abused by her own Mother.  Her Mother was also said to be involved in forms of satanic worship and/or witchcraft.  The therapist said that there is sometimes a link to people with multiple personality disorders and satanism.

The Bible does say that we should not seek counsel from anyone except God.   What I mean is that we are not supposed to seek help from spiritists and/or those involved with seances and witchcraft.  I do believe it is Scripturally correct to seek Godly counsel.  There are Godly counselors available for people that need help.

Mental illnesses are real.  Multiple Personality Disorder is a serious disease.  I pray God’s mercy and help on anyone that is afflicted with this disease & on their loved ones.

I sought the internet for information about this MPD.  I was interested in finding anything I could find on the subject from a Christian perspective.

I found a site that gave me more information than I expected to find.  I can honestly say that there are at least 2 things that I wonder about when I read information on this site.  I don’t want to take anything to the extreme.  It was important to me to pray about what I read and it was good for me to read the Scriptural references concerning this subject.  I first found information to MPD in the 9th Chapter of a book they have online.  There is also talk of people that are involved with alcoholism being able to pray for deliverance from alcoholism.

I will post the link to crossofchristministries.org on here if I’m able to do that.

Please pray asking God to show you if there is anything good on this site that will be helpful.

One of the things I read alarmed me because I don’t think the author could have meant to type things the way I read them on at least  one page of the writing.  It may become possible for me to contact them about this questioning why the typo is where it is and if they realize how the words I saw on one page do not match the rest of the teachings.  I also wonder how they feel about the Scriptural reference that the son will no longer be held accountable for the sins of the father and visa versa.

I encourage my friends to take a look at the website if they ever get time to do that.

There are still five chapters that I need to read on the subject of deliverance.  I’ve heard of some of these things before but realize I think it would be good for me to study it more thoroughly.

http://crossofchristministries.org/

You will find a manual on their site. They do accept an offering or donation or something for getting the manual.  I have not been able to contact them by phone or email.  I don’t know if there is anyone still working on that site or on the ministry.

You can view the manual online on their site.

I was not able to reach anyone by phone line at that ministry.  I was encouraged in times past to beware of becoming some sort of demon chaser.  The subject of deliverance is not an easy subject for me.  I am by no means an expert on the subject.  This is why I sought more information about it.

The Bible tells me that Jesus healed people of all kinds of things.  I still believe calling on the Lord Jesus for help is the best place to start when seeking help.  If you know anyone that needs help from professionals there are Christian counselors out there that know a lot more about this.  Seek professional help for yourself or loved one(s)  if you feel it is needed.

God is merciful, gracious, and kind.

His love endures forever.

Grace is undeserved favor.

God Loves Those Who Are Unlovable (Part 2)

Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009

I was reading from the book of Jonah today.

A lot of children know this Bible story.  It sure is one of my favorites.  I didn’t totally understand how Jonah could be so callous hearted though.  Why didn’t Jonah want to warn the people of the upcoming danger?  Why was Jonah so angry with God for having mercy on those people?  I still don’t know those answers.  I just know I don’t want to live my life like Jonah did except for a few things I saw in that story that really blesses me.

Jonah disobeyed God and ended up in the belly of a fish.  Sounds like a fish story to a lot of people, I know.  I do believe it’s true though.

Today when I read from Jonah Chapter 2 I saw something I had not realized before.  We walk on this earth and go through some hard and lonely times thinking we’ve hit rock bottom.  Ha!  We don’t know what rock bottom is unless we’ve gone down so far we are in the belly of a fish praying to God talking about how low we are.  Jonah realized he was very low because he was able to hit the ocean’s floor inside that fish.

He had seaweed wrapped around his head.  My friend believes  God allowed the seaweed to be on his head as a form of protection since he was in the belly of the fish.  I don’t know much about digestive juices while living in the belly of a fish but maybe the seaweed did protect Jonah. It all just reminds me that no matter where we are placed God is able to be with us and He can hear our prayers.  It also gets me back to the point I was trying to make.  Jonah disobeyed God and he was very low.  He had seaweed on his head and all things looked rather bad for him.

All the joys of life Jonah once knew were gone from him.  He couldn’t get away with trying to run away from his problems when he tried sailing away on a ship.  He wasn’t able to do anything but face the fact that his disobedience brought him into a place that appeared to be a prison and possibly his coffin.  He did not know what the future held and yet the next words that came out of his mouth must have come from God.

How could anyone naturally start talking about being snatched away from death by being brought up to life unless God gave them that kind of faith? None of us has known what that was like for Jonah but many of us do know what it’s like to feel so low you wonder when things will ever look up again.

We could take a lesson of faith from Jonah’s cry to God in Chapter 2.  I can imagine Jonah as he started giving God a sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving.  He had to have been speaking words of faith when he talked of life when all he could see in the natural was death.

He spoke of how he fainted or lost hope and then he recalled things about God.  He thought about God and his prayers got life.  He remembered that salvation comes from God.  He recommitted his own life to God declaring that he would do what God asked him to do.

He knew that deliverance comes from God.  He declared his trust in God.

AFTER Jonah began to give God the praise and thanksgiving in the midst of his storm God acted to have that fish spit or vomit Jonah up onto dry ground.

Jonah was saved from the belly of the fish.  God did deliver Jonah.

I read the rest of the story about Jonah.  I hope there came a day when Jonah thought about God’s mercy toward him and he ended up being happy that God was merciful to the people of Ninevah when they repented before God.  I don’t know much more about Jonah than what I’ve read there again today but I am so glad Jonah’s story was used to help me remember a few more things I want to write about today.

Jonah may have looked like a special man because God called him to do something for him.  Don’t you feel special when God calls you to do something?  Doesn’t it make you feel glad you are used by God?  I know I get more joy out of life from serving God than any other thing I have ever done.  Jonah did have the special call but Jonah didn’t end up looking like a cool sweet compassionate fellow when he got angry that God saved the people of Ninevah after they repented of their sins and after they turned away from their evil ways.

You know what?  No matter how ugly the people of Ninevah were at that time and no matter how ugly Jonah’s actions were we can see in this book of the Bible how God loved those who were unlovable.

God’s mercy and grace tells us that He is a merciful and loving God.

He is not happy when people do things that are wrong.  He does not like sin.  He still loves the sinner.

If people repent and truly turn from their wicked ways God will mercifully help them. God has always been the one that loves those who don’t deserve love.  God can help people turn from their wicked ways if they really want to enjoy life more.

If you’ve ever met someone that seems so unlovable that you thought there wasn’t much hope for them place them in the hands of God.  If you’ve ever felt like you were down so low that many times it appears as though there is no way out of the pit you are in do not despair.  God does care and there is hope for tomorrow.

God Loves Those Who Are Unlovable (Part 1)

Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009

An unlovable person is usually someone that is considered to be quite hateful at times. Some may say they deserve hatefulness because they’ve been so hateful.  It is even possible that they do not show gratitude enough to help others feel appreciation.   There  are some ways I would describe the unlovable.

I’d like to be able to tell you that I’ve always been lovable and that I’ve always felt loved but if I told you that I’d be a liar.

There are times when I’ve seen things in my life that make me feel I don’t deserve love.  Oh some of the silly things that make me feel bad about me would possibly make others laugh but it’s true that I don’t like it when I see ugliness in me.  There are other times that the enemy has caused me to think worse of myself than I ever should.  I am also reminded of times when other people may have said or done something that made me feel unlovable.

We were born in sin.  There are things we have done that do not please God and some of those things make us worthy of nothing less than the scorn of others.  Sin is ugly!  To tell a lie, to cheat, to steal, to hurt another person at any time in any way is sinful.  The unsightliness of sin makes us unlovable.

The good news is this: God loves us so much He sent His Son, Jesus, to die on the cross for us.  While we were yet sinners God sent His Son to die on the cross for us.

God Is The God Of Restoration

Wednesday, May 20th, 2009

Have you thought about restoration lately?

I heard a song about how we can take back what the devil stole.

The devil comes to steal, kill, and destroy.  That old enemy of ours is out to take our peace of mind if we let him and he wants to take anything else he can away from us.  The demons want to rob us of anything and everything especially the fine good things that come from God.
I’m glad no one can separate us from the love of God.  God’s love is stronger than any love man can muster.  God’s love heals and saves us.  God’s Word restores us.

Ponder on these passages from the Bible and think about things God says He will do for His people:

Mark 3:5,And when he had looked round about on them with anger, being grieved for the hardness of their hearts, he saith unto the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it out: and his hand was restored whole as the other.”

Jeremiah 30:17,”For I will restore health unto thee, and I will heal thee of thy wounds, saith the LORD; because they called thee an Outcast, saying, This is Zion, whom no man seeketh after.”

Matthew 17:11, “And Jesus answered and said unto them, Elias truly shall first come, and restore all things.”

Joel 2:25,”And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpiller, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you. ‘

Daniel 9:25, “Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.”

To be restored is to have things returned that were once taken.  Restoration deals with repair, renewing, and revival. Getting back that which is lost or stolen is part of what we are talking about here. Having things replaced and healed.

We may struggle to see restoration of all things we have lost while we live on this earth but we still have Jesus.  No one can separate us from the love of God.  We can have peace in the midst of our storms.  We can cast our cares on God knowing He cares for us.  We can live a happy life even though we’ve suffered many trials.  We have VICTORY in JESUS because Jesus died on the cross for us.  We really are more than conquerors because of all our Lord has done for us.

The Bible also says that the wicked will not have peace.  Even if they get some forms of peace it won’t last if they don’t walk the Jesus walk.  Vengeance is mine the Lord says to us.  God will tend to evildoers and we are not to fret over evildoers.

If you are doing all you can to serve the Lord with gladness and you have peace in your soul that lasts through your greatest trials you are blessed!  If you can go to sleep at night knowing God won’t fail you or foraske you you are blessed.

Read God’s Holy Word.  Abide in His Word and let His Word abide in You.  Trust in Him to revive your spirit.  Trust in Him to make all things brand new.

These Signs Will Follow Believers

Sunday, May 10th, 2009

Mark 16 tells us the signs that will follow believers.

These signs still follow believers in the Lord Jesus Christ.

God is not dead.  The same spirit that raised Jesus from the dead is the same spirit that raises us from death to life.  We can have a victorious joy filled Christian life because Jesus died on the cross for our sins.

We can sing and shout those words, “I’m so glad Jesus set me free. I’m singing glory halleluia Jesus set me free.” and “satan had me bound but Jesus set me free. I’m singing glory halleluia Jesus set me free.”

If you are living in bondage or you know someone who is remember that the blood of Jesus washes us white as snow.  Demons have to flee and every knee will bow and every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.  There is no power anywhere that is able to separate you from the love of God.
