John 1

John 1

”1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

2The same was in the beginning with God.

3All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

4In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

5And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

6There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.

7The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.

8He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.

9That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.

10He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.

11He came unto his own, and his own received him not.

12But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

13Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

14And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

15John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me.

16And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.

17For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

18No man hath seen God at any time, the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.

19And this is the record of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, Who art thou?

20And he confessed, and denied not; but confessed, I am not the Christ.

21And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elias? And he saith, I am not. Art thou that prophet? And he answered, No.

22Then said they unto him, Who art thou? that we may give an answer to them that sent us. What sayest thou of thyself?

23He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Esaias.

24And they which were sent were of the Pharisees.

25And they asked him, and said unto him, Why baptizest thou then, if thou be not that Christ, nor Elias, neither that prophet?

 26John answered them, saying, I baptize with water: but there standeth one among you, whom ye know not;

27He it is, who coming after me is preferred before me, whose shoe’s latchet I am not worthy to unloose.

28These things were done in Bethabara beyond Jordan, where John was baptizing.

29The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

30This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man which is preferred before me: for he was before me.

31And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water.

32And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him.

33And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost.

34And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.

 35Again the next day after John stood, and two of his disciples;

36And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God!

37And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.

38Then Jesus turned, and saw them following, and saith unto them, What seek ye? They said unto him, Rabbi, (which is to say, being interpreted, Master,) where dwellest thou?

39He saith unto them, Come and see. They came and saw where he dwelt, and abode with him that day: for it was about the tenth hour.

40One of the two which heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother.

41He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ.

42And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone.

43The day following Jesus would go forth into Galilee, and findeth Philip, and saith unto him, Follow me.

44Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.

45Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.

46And Nathanael said unto him, Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saith unto him, Come and see.

47Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!

48Nathanael saith unto him, Whence knowest thou me? Jesus answered and said unto him, Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee.

49Nathanael answered and saith unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel.

50Jesus answered and said unto him, Because I said unto thee, I saw thee under the fig tree, believest thou? thou shalt see greater things than these.

51And he saith unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Hereafter ye shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.”

I talked with an elderly friend yesterday.  We were talking about all the new babies that have been born and we talked about those we know that have died.  He basically made a statement about how he believes it’s quite natural for the young ones to come and take the place of those that are growing older.  He seemed so at peace with the idea of accepting death during  a time when we had been talking about both life and death.

There are those of us who feel as though no age is a good age to have a loved one die. I know I feel that way.  I am blessed to have both of my parents living here on earth.  I’ve known the loss of others that have ranged in ages.  It does seem so much more difficult for us to accept the loss of those that are young.

Considering the fact that God’s ways are higher than ours helps me accept the death of all no matter what the age.

Luke Is Here

November 20th, 2008

I heard a wonderful report about a family I know being blessed with another child.

This child’s name is Luke.  May the good Lord bless the entire family as they train this little one to grow up in the teaching and the admonition of the Lord.  May his little sister also be overjoyed to have a new brother to call her own.

Pray For Those Battling Pneumonia, Pleurisy, & Sinus Infections

November 20th, 2008

It seems there have been a large number of reports of people dealing with the pneumonia, pleurisy, and sinus infections.  I’ve been hearing these reports all year long.

Bronchitis is another problem I’ve heard others talking about having.

Pray For 8 Year Old Boy Diagnosed With Cancer

November 20th, 2008

Lindon needs special prayer at this time.  This sweet little boy has been diagnosed with cancer in his lungs and cancer in other areas of his body.

His family has needs that only God can tend to when it comes to the emotional strain this must be placing on all of them.

There is also wisdom needed concerning where and how he is to receive medical care and/or treatment.

Please Pray For Survivors

November 20th, 2008

It seems we don’t go through a year without hearing that someone is going through the death of a loved one.

Just  few of the people I know that have lost loved ones this year are Julie, Esther, Betty, Barbie, Sharon, & Gayle.  I don’t think I could quickly recall everyone’s name.  No wonder it’s quite common for us to just ask the Lord to please help comfort all those that have lost loved ones.

I did hear of about another man going to be with the Lord this morning.  I remember the last time I saw him.  He is the Father of one of my High School friends.  The last time I saw him he had a smile on his face and even thouh he had been diagnosed with an illness a number of years ago he was joyously sharing time with me when I visited his home.  That smile on his face is what I remember most.

Lord willing, I’ll be visiting his loved ones at the funeral this weekend.  It’s never easy to see their faces and it’s so hard for me to keep from crying when I think of what they are going through.  There were actually times when I felt as though I had to steer clear from as many funerals as I could because it’s so very hard to see people you love in pain.

This post is here hoping all who read this will take time to pray for all those that are going through these losses at this time.

Psalm 103

November 17th, 2008

“1Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.

2Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:

 3Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;

 4Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies;

5Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

6The LORD executeth righteousness and judgment for all that are oppressed.

7He made known his ways unto Moses, his acts unto the children of Israel.

8The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy.

9He will not always chide: neither will he keep his anger for ever.

10He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities.

11For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him.

12As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.

13Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him.

14For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust.

15As for man, his days are as grass: as a flower of the field, so he flourisheth.

16For the wind passeth over it, and it is gone; and the place thereof shall know it no more.

 17But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children’s children;

18To such as keep his covenant, and to those that remember his commandments to do them.

19The LORD hath prepared his throne in the heavens; and his kingdom ruleth over all.

20Bless the LORD, ye his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word.

21Bless ye the LORD, all ye his hosts; ye ministers of his, that do his pleasure.

22Bless the LORD, all his works in all places of his dominion: bless the LORD, O my soul.”

Note For My Friends

November 13th, 2008

Just letting everyone know my main computer looks like it’s crashing.  I’ve lost a lot of personal information since it was stored on the main computer.  Some email addresses and some mailing addresses are lost.

I have printed most of the things published on this site and this site is still open so the things written on this site are at my disposal.  I did lose some of the work I began on the book I was working on.  I was not able to get it copied.  I still have the old work that was printed.

All is not lost but several things are lost.

Please keep it all in prayer.  My old computer was in the garage.  I am going to set it up but it is much slower so I don’t know how much work I can get done on it in a timely fashion.

Please pray for those that are without work.  Keep thinking of those who are dealing with loss of loved ones, loss of jobs, loss of homes & so on.

It may take me a while to get in touch with everyone I was most recently contacting by email.

Be Happy Be Blessed

November 10th, 2008

I have read that if one is blessed then they are happy.

I’ve also read that to have someone bless you is as if they are pronouncing a blessing upon you.  They are wishing you well and hoping you will be happy.

I kept reading to find out more of what words a Bible dictionary uses to describe the word bless.  I put the definitions together to come up with the following ideas.

When someone asks God to bless you they could be pronouncing one or all of these wonderful things to come your way:

  • holiness
  • consecration
  • prosperity
  • joyousness
  • happiness
  • merriness
  • cheerfulness
  • to be blithesome
  • protection
  • to be shielded from harm

The next time someone says God bless you think about what they are asking God to do for you.

May the Lord God bless you as you do the things that please Him most.
